Is Color Vision a legitimate prerequisite?

I recently was diagnosed with mild green deficiency and medium red deficiency. This has been especially troubling seeing as I have been training for Para-rescue. This has become my purpose and foundation. I have my life up to 17 not knowing this so i ask what is the problem? I am perfectly capable of differentiating colors and i believe myself to be a deserving candidate. I have put my whole heart into the idea of being PJ, so i ask is Color Vision a legitimate prerequisite?
